receipt of your confidential despatch of

the 3rd of October, 1938, forwarding a

petition addressed to me by the Executive

Engineers and Engineers of the Public Works

Department.

2. I have to request that you may

cause the petitioners to be informed that

I have received and considered their

representations, but that I cannot see

cause to vary in their favour the scheme

of remuneration in the Government Service,

which has been adopted after full considera-

tion not only of local conditions, but also

of the comparable levels of remuneration

elsewhere in the Colonial Service.
